“Why do we want all these people from ‘shithole countries’ coming here?”
It is a phase that has been denied but has this week sparked a lot of press coverage.
In a country where over 60% of their citizens don’t have a passport is it hard to believe that there is a lack of awareness of anything outside their own sphere. It could be argued that in a country so vast you can go on holiday each year to some amazing sights and diverse places without going outside the boarders and in perspective that 40% is over 100 million people. But what about the other 60% – isn’t there a curiosity to see whats out there.
There is an arrogance about the country that often is manifested in its citizens but what it is that they are so proud of. The land of the free where in reality if you are not white, female or not earning significant amounts of money you are deemed as second class citizens by this elite. While there is considerable back lash to his antics you have to wonder if the country voted in an arrogant racist because his statements and sentiments, while outraging the rest of the word, resinated with many citizens.
So what are they so proud of?
The USA does not mandate paid leave to mothers of newborns. In January 2017 there was an article that said less than half the women who tool maternity leave in the US were paid for it and it seems that it remains one of the 3 countries in the world that do not mandate paid maternity leave.
It has more guns than people – 101 per 100 people which is nearly double that of any other country. Serbia and Yemen have around 50 per 100 people. And we see the impact of that in the new all to often.
We like to stereotype but like the efficiency of the Germans, or the party nature of the Irish, maybe its just one of those things and the unfiltered ramblings is actually the nature of their president and representative of the majority of Americans and for a change the President is not from a middle class educated background and has more in tune with that 60% than we would like to admit.
